3 Weeks at Prestige Network – Sophie’s internship

Posted: 06/02/2025

At Prestige Network, we believe that internships provide important real-world experiences that foster both professional and personal growth. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sophie to our team, offering a glimpse into the dynamic world of translation, interpreting, and language technology. Here’s what she had to say about her journey with us:

I recently completed a three-week internship at PN, where I had the opportunity to immerse my-self in the world of translation and interpreting. As a passionate linguist, this experience provided me with invaluable insights into an industry largely driven by freelancers, while also broadening my understanding of languages and cultural nuances I had never encountered before.

During my time with PN, I had the chance to work in both the Translation and Interpreting departments, giving me a well-rounded perspective on the industry from various angles – client, linguist, and company employee. In the Interpreting department, I was involved in coordinating interpreter bookings, reaching out via phone calls and messages to confirm availability, as well as occasionally managing cancellations. The team’s patience and support were vital in helping me integrate smoothly into the workflow and contribute meaningfully.

In the Translation department, I was able to shadow several tasks, from ensuring the quality of translated documents to subtitling software for video content. One of the most fascinating parts of my internship was following the entire journey of a translation – from its initial draft to the final product in the target language(s) – and seeing the meticulous care and dedication the team applies to every project.

This internship has not only deepened my professional knowledge but also my appreciation for the inner workings of an industry I hope to be a part of in the future. It has given me a more rounded understanding of the field, particularly from the perspective of someone who is interested in becoming an interpreter. I’ve learned that there’s so much more to the profession than I initially realized, from the logistical side of booking interpreters to the technicalities of quality assurance in Translation.

I am deeply grateful to everyone at PN for their warmth, guidance, and support throughout this experience. Their generosity made this internship a valuable stepping stone in my career. Thank you to all at PN for making January such a memorable month; I wish you all the very best in the future.

We are dedicated to nurturing talent and sharing our passion for language and communication. We wish Sophie all the best for her future and look forward to supporting more talented young professionals on their journey.
