Established in 2009, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care, tasked with the regulation and inspection of health and social care providers.
The CQC ensures that health and social care services deliver safe, effective, compassionate, and high-quality care, and it encourages improvement in these services through its regulatory and inspection activities.
In March 2018, Prestige Network entered into a contract with the Care Quality Commission to provide a comprehensive range of services including British Sign Language interpreting, accessible formatting, easy read documents, audio recordings, braille, and language interpreting and translation services.
This partnership supported the CQC as they had previously faced significant challenges in creating an accessible and culturally diverse work environment. A primary obstacle was their limited capacity to effectively communicate with and assess the needs of deaf and non-English-speaking residents/patients. The absence of interpreters and suitable communication aids made it impossible for inspectors to conduct thorough and inclusive assessment interviews.
We provide the CQC with continuous face-to-face interpreting services to support their deaf and hardof-hearing residents/patients. Additionally, we offer ongoing multilingual interpreting to ease interviews between non-English-speaking residents/patients and English-speaking interviewers.
Providing sign and language interpreting enabled the CQC to interview patients/residents across multiple languages, including Bulgarian, Polish, Urdu, Bengali,
Farsi, Gujarati, and more, in addition to British Sign
Language.
This enabled the CQC to champion the assessment of safety, effectiveness, compassion, and highquality care received by non-English-speakers and patients/residents who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Prestige Network provides the Care Quality Commission with essential interpreting and translation services in multiple languages, including BSL, to enhance accessibility and communication in health and social care settings. This support helps ensure effective, inclusive, and high-quality care delivery.
