Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is a teaching university with roots going back to 1843 with the establishment of the Nottingham Government School of Design which still exists within the University today. In 2019, The Guardian awarded the university its ‘University of the Year’ award. It is the 9th largest university in the UK (out of 169) with 35,785 students split over five different campuses.
NTU has a long tradition of supporting deaf students throughout their studies and student life and was keen to provide more opportunities to deaf students at NTU. They wanted to improve the quality of their provision of British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting services to an increasing number of students in a variety of settings as well as the administration of the service in general. NTU wentthrough a tender process to appoint the highest scoring tenderer.
Prestige Network demonstrated over 30 years’ experience of providing BSL interpreting services on a contractual basis to local authorities and NHS Trusts as well as government departments such as the Ministry of Defence in our proposal. We actively increased our existing resource of suitably qualified and experienced BSL interpreters in the East Midlands area to fulfil this contract, a process overseen by our in-house BSL Business Manager and Registered Sign Language interpreter (RSLI), Wendy White.
Wendy and our Interpreting Manager, Suzanne Czuczor, have been on hand to help the University implement this new contract, building a larger team of registered BSL interpreters to provide a high-quality interpreting service to ensure an inclusive experience for all Deaf students. Through our pool of over 40 BSL interpreters, we are now supporting 8 students in their full-time studies across a wide range of subject areas including Pharmacology, Architecture and Product Design.
Your Trusted Partner in British Sign Language Interpreting Services. Our dedicated team of professional BSL interpreters is committed to promoting accessibility and inclusivity across all sectors. We understand the diverse communication needs that arise in various settings, be it educational, medical, corporate, or community-based environments.
