Do most people speak English? No. Capitalise on that!

The international market is ripe for the taking, as these examples demonstrate with their strategic use of translation and localisation:

Neil Patel – Digital Marketer.

Neil Patel’s ad agency was ranked the 21st fastest-growing company in the United States, according to Inc. magazine. How did they achieve this ranking? By expanding globally and localising content. Their strategy focused on adapting their website for Brazilian Portuguese, German, and French. Their strategy also focused on targeting different markets, including India, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mexico. They are now localised in 19 different languages.

While other markets might not have as large a GDP, or spending power, they’re ultimately not as competitive, making them perfect for your company. Just get there first. He later stated, “We believe if you fast forward five years from now, we’re seeing a trajectory where 70 – 80% of our revenue comes from outside the United States.”

MrBeast – YouTuber.

Throughout his YouTube journey, MrBeast has garnered a colossal following of 241 million subscribers, surpassing the population of many countries, including Bangladesh, Russia, Mexico, Japan, Germany, French Canadian, to name a few. To cater to his diverse audience, many of whom do not speak his native American English, this ingenious YouTuber and entrepreneur created language-specific channels and audio tracks through international voiceovers and dubing.

In his bid to go global, Jimmy (MrBeast) and his extensive team have engaged voice actors to dub his content for his non-English-speaking fans. His fame even allowed him to secure the services of Junko Takeuchi, Naruto’s voice actor, to lend her voice to his Japanese dub. This strategy exemplifies MrBeast’s approach to global marketing and accessibility.

Squid Game – Netflix Show.

How often do you open Netflix and scroll through all their programmes for “the one”? After hours of scrolling, you’ve finally found the perfect show! Let me grab the popcorn click. UGH. It’s in a different language. Now you go back to scrolling. How annoying is this?

We didn’t get this issue with Squid Game.

Squid Game went global by being dubbed and subtitled in multiple languages, making it accessible to a global audience right from the start. Netflix paid attention to the details of translation, such as character limits and emotional undertones, to make the show more relatable for international audiences.

Unlike many shows, Squid Game bypassed the language barrier by offering dubs and subtitles. This unlocked a global audience, propelling it to become one of Netflix’s most-watched series ever.

These examples above are not impossible by any means. They just did their research, going to external agencies that helped them go global. It is amazing what these examples have accomplished, from 241 million subscribers to the top 25 growing companies in America and 142 million viewers for Squid Game, but how can you do it for your brand?
