Key Worker Status for Public Sector Interpreters?

Prestige Network Blog, BSL, Interpreting, News and Press Releases, Public Sector

We know how important our amazing team of interpreters are, and so does the Public Sector. The ATC and their Public Service Stakeholders are lobbying for Key Worker Status for interpreters who are involved in interpreting work across the NHS, police and social care.

Although we have some great technology which enables remote interpreting, there are also times when there is no substitute for a face-to-face interpreter.

Police interpreters have already been recognised by the Police National Lead for Language Services as Key Workers.

The list of Key Workers includes “the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector”, “those essential to the running of the justice system” and “police and support staff”.

We’re rightly proud of all the Key Workers, and indeed, of the whole of the country for pulling together.

Prestige Network’s interpreting team is keeping busy right now, whether working face to face, by video or by telephone, but we have plenty of interpreters available, speaking over 200 languages and using BSL to help your organisation and clients through this challenging time and beyond.

Keep going Team UK, stay safe.
