Supporting the Education of Young People Everywhere

Prestige Network believes that everyone, no matter what their race, religion, disability, gender or anything else should have the right to an education.

That's why our campaign for 2007/08 is Supporting the Education of Young People Everywhere.

According to Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "Everyone has the right to education."

Here are just a few examples of where oppression and exclusion in education exist around the world:

  • In Iran young people of the Baha'i Faith are denied their right to education. While since the 90's Baha'is have not directly been denied education they are encouraged to refer to themselves as Muslim in order to gain entry to university. For more information see www.denial.bahai.org.
  • Women and girls in some countries including Iran and Saudi Arabia are denied education.
  • Some religions deny women the right to an education
  • Young people with disabilities all over the world are frequently denied adequate rights to and even excluded from education. This may be due to a lack of facilities, teaching staff or any other number of reasons.
  • In Africa less than 25% of girls go to school (source: The Hindu website)
  • Education is an ongoing concern in Palestine and issues that surround this alleged oppression are complicated. Various anti education activities are said to take place regularly in Palestine, but few people recognise or understand the true issues behind the full situation.
