Diversity TrainingThe way an organization deals with the issue of Diversity is rapidly becoming central to business success. The winners and losers will be differentiated by, among other things, their approach to Diversity. Leading edge corporations recognize that their ability to manage a diverse workforce is essential to:

  • meet their legal obligations
  • achieve business objectives through harnessing the existing and potential capabilities of all their staff
  • enhance their reputation as a good global citizen

The easiest way for an organisation to become proactive and begin to reap the rewards of Diversity is to integrate Diversity in the organisational vision. This means a public declaration and a commitment of people and resources to a process of what some staff will see a radical change process. This vision has to be consistent throughout the organization.

The programme, Diversity Training , is designed not only as an introduction to cultural and diversity awareness, but also a practical guide to making Diversity part of the organizational culture. It combines a focus on organizational and personal beliefs, values and behaviours with a review of the key aspects of legislation. This is then complemented by a practical session that helps empower people to deal with sensitive interpersonal work-based discriminatory incidents in a positive and successful manner. The programme includes sessions that enable participants to effectively integrate equality and diversity within their everyday working practices.

Topics covered on the programme include:

  • To identify common prejudices and stereotypes and how they can lead to discrimination.
  • To identify different types of discrimination; direct, indirect, passive, unconscious, institutional.
  • To identify the groups that commonly experience discrimination and disadvantage and why
  • To identify the areas of discrimination that are not legal
  • To identify the ways in which actual or potential discrimination impacts on the work of the organisation and on the customers/clients of the organisation.
  • To identify the actual or potential impact of diversity within the workforce.
  • To identify ways in which participants can make new members of staff and customers/clients from different groups, feel comfortable and 'at home'.
  • To develop individual and group action plans to further equality of opportunity within the organisation.
