Language services specialist Prestige Network is marking Deaf Awareness Week with a campaign throughout May designed to highlight how using British Sign Language can improve the lives of deaf people.
Nearly 15% of the population have some degree of deafness and since the launch of its British Sign Language services two years ago, Prestige Network has found that BSL is increasingly popular.
May's campaign means that every British Sign Language booking made with Prestige before the end of the month (May) qualifies for entry into a draw for a £10 book voucher and £30 off the BSL booking. The draw will take place at the beginning of June.
Susan Tolman, PR Executive for Prestige Network, said: "We have an extremely active list of clients who use our British Sign Language service on a regular basis. The service was launched as a direct result of requests from our existing language clients. It has expanded so much that we have exceeded 50 BSL bookings every month - and it's growing all the time!
"Few of us are aware of how taxing life can be when people have hearing difficulties. British Sign Language is the first or preferred language of around 70,000 people in the UK, and many people also combine signs from BSL with English in order to communicate - BSL can really help improve the lives of many deaf people."
She added: "Being deaf is about experiencing the world visually and we wanted to mark Deaf Awareness Week with a gesture to new and existing clients."
