Conference Interpreting for a Cross-Channel Policy Forum
Prestige Network were approached by Southampton Solent University and asked to provide simultaneous interpreting from English into French for a full-day conference in a theatre-style setting, as well as the breakout sessions, where delegates split into three groups. They also asked us for a chuchotage interpreter, which is a specialist form of simultaneous interpreting where the linguist interprets simultaneously by whispering, usually just to one listener.
The conference was part of a wider initiative named Project Pegaseas, funded by the European Regional Development Fund looking at better models for cross-Channel governance by bringing together over 20 English and French universities, marine organisations as well as local and central government representatives. Breakout sessions explored topics including management and use of data, marine ecosystems management, citizen and stakeholder engagement, pressure and activity on the marine environment and governance at multiple scales in the Channel. Keynote presentations were delivered by both English and French policymakers, and it was important that every delegate was able to participate effectively.
