Deaf Interpreters / BSL Interpreters
British Sign Language / English interpreting is a service we have provided for more than a decade and has gained a great deal of recognition and appreciation among our clients.
It is estimated that British Sign Language (BSL) is used by 70,000 people in the UK. This figure includes Deaf* people whose preferred or first language is BSL and also family members, friends and colleagues of Deaf individuals as well as professional BSL interpreters and translators.
Clients may mistakenly refer to a BSL professional as a ‘deaf interpreter’, but the more accurate term for the service they require is a BSL / English Interpreter, i.e. an interpreter who works in both British Sign Language and English who can enable Deaf and hearing people to communicate with each other.
* The use of the word ‘Deaf’ (with a capital ‘D’) refers to a person whose preferred language is BSL whereas ‘deaf’ (with a lowercase ‘d’) refers to any person with a significant hearing loss.
