What is telephone interpreting?

Telephone Interpreting is a service that allows parties who speak different languages to communicate with each other via a conference call with a trained telephone interpreter. 

What is telephone interpreting used for?

This method of interpreting is allows a telephone call to facilitate interpreting, between two or more parties who speak differerent languages. It means that the interpreter and/or the other parties do not have to be in the same physical location. This can allow the interpreting service to be provided at short notice as travel time for the interpreter is not a factor. It would also allow an international conference call between groups or individuals that do not share a common language.

In what environment is telephone interpreting typically used?

Telephone interpreting may used for conference calling, where one or more participants on the call have specific language needs or situations where interpreting services need to be provided quckly.

Why would I need a telephone interpreter?

If you require interpreting services at short notice or if your organisation holds conference calls between groups of different nationalities, a telephone interpreter will enable individuals to communicate with one another without a language barrier.

What are the benefits of telephone interpreting?

Telephone interpreters are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service operates on a pay-as-you-go basis. We offer a free advance-booking system, without fee’s applied, where members can contact us to arrange the call at a time specifically to suit. There is also the facility to allow for up to 15 individuals to participate in a single call.

How does telephone interpreting work?

At Prestige Network we operate a free phone automated telephone interpreting system to connect you to an interpreter.

How long does it take to connect to an interpreter?

From dialling our telephone interpreting phone number it should not take longer than 60 seconds, however in the case of rarer languages this can take up to 2 minutes.

What details do I need to have when I call?

Once you our registered to use our telephone interpreting services you will be given a 6 digit pin number, you will need this pin number when you call to speak with one of our interpreters, you will also need the language code you require an interpreter for.

Do I have to connect the call myself?

No, once you have input the language code the system will automatically put you through to an interpreter.

Is this service available outside of the UK?

Yes, but calls will be charged at your international rate.

What is your coverage for this service?
